4 Media Lab
Experience summer days that will change the way you look at art. 4 Media Lab is a space where people of different generations come together. Through joint artistic creation, conversations, and discoveries while exploring Trenčín city, they share life experiences and learn to perceive their different perspectives on life.
Whether you are a student or a senior, an artist or a curious novice, come immerse yourself in one of four art forms – the world of photography, film, performance, or storytelling, under the guidance of professionals from various countries. You will discover new skills, meet inspiring people, and experience summer days you will remember for a long time.
What artistic labs does the 4 Media Lab offer?
Do you ever wonder what lies behind the story on the screen? In the Film lab, we will try out the entire process of creating a short film — from the initial ideas and scriptwriting to shooting and final editing. We will develop our own themes, work as a film crew under professional guidance from the film industry, and together we will create short films that will premiere in front of a live audience.
PHOTOGRAPHY LAB: Shoot. Print. Zine.
Are you looking for new ways to capture experiences and preserve memories through photography? In the Photography lab, we will look for extraordinary moments hidden in ordinary situations. You can look forward to experimenting in the darkroom, a snapshot photography workshop focused on spontaneously capturing everyday moments, working with flash, light, atmosphere, and composition, and finally, creating your own small photographic publication — a zine.
PERFORMANCE LAB I.: The Space of Self-Care
How do we listen to our bodies? How can we allow ourselves more peace, mindfulness, and space in everyday life? In this lab, we will use gentle movement exercises, breathwork, voice, and mindfulness to explore how we feel in our own bodies and in relation to others. A safe and respectful space awaits you to slow down, regenerate, discover new ways of self-care, and experience intergenerational encounters.
PERFORMANCE LAB II.: AI Adventure in Trenčín
What can happen when old family photos meet artificial intelligence? In the AI adventure in Trenčín, we will connect younger and older generations to work together with memories and digital tools. This lab will merge the ideas of young people with the precious memories of the older generation. We will learn how to prompt artificial intelligence so that it writes texts for us, brings old photos to life, or draws the future of Trenčín.
STORYTELLING LAB: In the Beginning Was the Voice
Are you looking for a way to tell stories in a more engaging way? Would you like to work better with your voice and public speech? In the Storytelling lab, we will discover the power of storytelling through traditional as well as personal stories, and look for ways to tell them naturally and authentically. You can look forward to working with voice, gesture, eye contact, and connection to audience, as well as exercises in pairs and groups in a safe and respectful environment. At the end, there will be an opportunity to present your chosen story in front of an audience.

Who is 4 Media Lab for?
Anyone from 15 to 99+ years of age can sign up, no previous art experience is required. At the same time, the labs are tailored for a diverse group, ensuring they also offer valuable insights for professionals.
When will 4 Media Lab take place and how much time will it take?
The Summer School will take place from August 21 until August 29, 2026. Each media lab has its own schedule. Some take place in the evening hours, others during the day. You can find specific information in the description of each lab.
Where will 4 Media Lab take place?
At the KKC Hviezda in Trenčín. Some labs will also include walks and other activities in the streets or in the natural environment of Trenčín.
How much will it cost?
Thanks to Trenčín 2026 – European Capital of Culture, participation in the Summer School is free of charge.
How can I sign up?
Just fill out a simple form by August 8, 2026, at the latest. Capacities of labs are limited, so don’t delay your registration.
What is the 4 Media Lab?
4 Media Lab is a format consisting of artistic workshops across four art forms. We are organizing it in Trenčín for the third time already. This year, you can look forward to storytelling, film, performance and photography again, but we are adding two new formats: AI Adventure in Trenčín and the Self-Care Laboratory. For some of the labs we also invited new lecturers, who will give us fresh perspectives.
What is the goal of the Generations together project?
Through educational, artistic, and community activities, Generations together connect people of different ages. It is a space to share and shape stories—from personal testimonies to views on the city of Trenčín, its history, present, and visions of a shared future. The project will culminate in September 2026 with a final event and exhibition presenting the results of the work of all participants.
The Generations Together project is part of European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 programme and is implemented by an international curatorial team consisting of Dominika Belanská (Prievidza), Rokko Juhász (Esztergom – Hungary), Viktor Fuček (Bratislava), and Mads Floor Andersen (Copenhagen – Denmark).
